Is environmentally friendly vehickle restoration suitable for leased vehicles?
Yes, environmentally friendly vehickle restoration can also be selected for leased vehicles.
This does not mean that damage affecting road safety, the vehicle’s functionality, or its value will be left unrepaired. Such damage will always be repaired properly. Environmentally friendly repair methods are only used when they provide a high-quality, technically appropriate result.
When selecting the repair solution for a leased vehicle, the vehicle’s age, warranty conditions, lease agreement terms, and buyback conditions are also taken into account.
What types of damage may remain unrepaired?
Only minor cosmetic signs of wear and tear may be left unrepaired if they:
Examples of normal wear and tear include individual dents up to 1.5 cm in diameter where the paint is not damaged, superficial polishable scratches up to 10 cm long, small stone chips that do not expose bare metal or show signs of corrosion, and light scratches on alloy wheels or wheel covers.
By contrast, scratches that penetrate the paint or clear coat, corrosion, larger dents, deformations, and broken or missing parts are not considered normal wear and tear. Such damage must always be repaired properly.
Environmentally friendly vehicle repair is not a basis for leaving accident damage inadequately repaired.
How is the repair solution agreed with the customer?
The initial assessment of the damage and the available repair methods is carried out by a professional repair workshop. The final repair solution is agreed jointly by the customer, the repair workshop, and the Seesam claims handler.
If there is any question as to whether certain damage is purely cosmetic and could remain unrepaired, this will be discussed with the customer before any decision is made. The customer will be informed of the proposed solution and will have the opportunity to ask questions and express their preferences.
An environmentally friendly repair solution does not mean that the customer is automatically expected to accept the use of recycled parts, spot repairs, or leaving certain damage unrepaired. If the initially proposed solution is not acceptable to the customer, other reasonable alternatives will be considered together.
How are vehicle return conditions taken into account in the case of operating leases?
For vehicles under an operating lease, the dealer responsible for the vehicle’s buyback assesses whether the damage falls within the definition of normal wear and tear permitted at the end of the lease term. Damage exceeding normal wear and tear must be properly repaired before the vehicle is returned.
According to the joint guidelines of the Estonian Leasing Association and AMTEL, damage classified as excessive wear and tear must be repaired at the lessee’s expense. In the event of a dispute, an independent expert acceptable to both parties may be appointed.
Seesam’s objective is to choose a repair solution that ensures a properly handled insurance claim will not result in the customer having to pay for repairing the same damage again when returning the vehicle at the end of the operating lease. Therefore, vehicle return conditions are also taken into consideration when determining the repair solution for leased vehicles.
The claim that environmentally friendly vehickle restoration typically leaves leased vehicles with damage that customers must pay to repair when returning the vehicle does not reflect the actual principles of Seesam’s solution and is therefore misleading.
How is the environmental impact of the repair solution measured?
Environmental impact is reduced primarily through the choice of repair method. Whenever possible, preference is given to:
For example, when removing a small dent that has not damaged the paint, paintless dent repair preserves the factory finish of the panel. With conventional body repair, it may be necessary to remove the panel from the vehicle, clean and sand it, apply filler and primer, repaint and re-lacquer it, and blend the colour into adjacent panels.
With paintless dent repair, most of these steps are unnecessary. As a result, there is a significant reduction in:
Conventional body and paint repairs typically take 2–3 days, whereas paintless dent repair can often be completed within 2–3 hours.
